So I like my blog... but

How many of you think I should get on Facebook?

If I do, the requirement I put before you is to make sure you tell me if you think I am on there too much. I don't want it to be a distraction and further temptation to steal time away from my kids. But I do like how you can network so much more than waiting for people to comment...! I need accountability partners here people... any volunteers? The bad part is that you have to be on there too if you're gonna keep tabs on me!

Edited to add: And I have to make sure it's ok with Gabe. I know he has some security concerns on there.. that's why his name is a little "off." Mine might be too... :-)

Ken and I joined just a month or so ago. If Ken thinks it's safe, I don't worry about it. I have found that it is easier and less time consuming to write a little blurb on facebook than to do my blog. It seems like Kari & Todd are the same way. What takes time for me is reading what everyone else wrote, I think people with lots of facebook friends must hide what alot of their friends write. I haven't quite figured that part out yet or why some people that barely know me want to be friends. You probably should join, since everyone on our side of the family including Grandma, except for your folks are on.

Well, I like the blog better because Facebook doesn't have quite the same capabilities for sharings stories and events in a way that is accessable to everyone. Plus, selfishly, I can't go onto Facebook at work... and I dont like to be on the computer at home... so I really only keep up with people from their blog postings. :)

I like Facebook, but I think it can be a time sucker. If I avoid the "extras" and just occasional check on what friends are doing it doesn't take more than a minute or two a day.

After a few weeks of Facebooking, I would say that I'm in touch with a lot more people, but I can't say I know any of them any better than before. To be fair, that's not its purpose - you can't go very deep with 450 letters of text. But you can be encouraging, or sympathetic, or just cheerful - and that's good.

In contrast, reading the blogs of thoughtful people who express themselves well (I'd include you and your SIL in that group) is a great way of getting to know them better. We've had some good online discussions about scripture in the past few years, and I've really enjoyed getting to know your perspectives, and maybe a little about how you think.

But I understand that it takes time and dedication to keep up a blog page, and you've clearly got a lot of other priorities at this point. So put the blog on hiatus if you must, just don't disappear completely.
