Did you know?

I had a thought, and went to check my fridge. We have a squeeze bottle of jam in there that Gabe purchased to take hunting.

Brand-name store-bought jam has high fructose corn syrup in it!

This probably should have been a *duh* moment, but I just am so amazed at everything they put it into! I am starting to really buy into the theory that high fructose corn syrup is being used the same way MSG is... because it's addictive.

Does Anyone Else Struggle With This?

I know I have been talking a lot about "religious" stuff, but I am just so excited about what I've been learning. So please be gracious, and I would love to hear what you think-- even if you disagree! :-)

I was pondering my last post, and thinking about why Christians aged 20-30 have such a different view from those in earlier generations. And why only 10% of voters have a biblical worldview compared to 48% who claim Christianity. This reminded me of the difficulty I have had since leaving my "school years" (high school-college age) in learning to have a biblical worldview instead of the humanistic view that we are taught in school.

I remember one time in college, in sociology or something like that, when the professor just had to pick me, asked if I was at home with children and an intruder broke in the middle of the night -My family's lives were in danger - I have a gun - What do I do? I said "Shoot." "To what end?" "Death, if necessary." "But doesn't the Bible say 'Thou Shalt Not Murder?' " "Ok, so I shoot their legs."
She proceeded to rip me to shreds, and the Bible along with it. I left nearly in tears because I did not know how to defend my beliefs or position. I could not argue what the Bible said versus humanism because all I really understood was humanism. I did not understand what I knew to be truth - now I do regarding that subject, and I want to know more about everything else.

Anyway, my question for anyone else willing to put themselves out there, and if I may, specifically those of you who attended Christian schools and colleges: Do you struggle with this biblical versus humanistic worldview? I feel like every time I come up against something new, it's like I have to relearn it, from a biblical standpoint. And I want to! But sometimes I feel so overwhelmed that the whole world is against me, and like I will never really *get* it. Like I have so far to go. (This is why I seek discussion - although I know this forum makes me sound more like just a know-it-all. Please look past this soapbox scenario and understand that this is me, growing and examining, grateful that He is so amazing in teaching me.) Hear me- if my gifts are knowledge and wisdom, why do I get such a negative response from other Christians when I am trying to learn? Do you have to have these gifts to have such a hunger for understanding? Does anyone else feel like they are being discouraged from growing, because it typically means growing away from the world and the mainstream Christianity?

Should we just blend in with everyone else in the name of unity and tolerance? Should we defend our positions? How do we grow if we don't challenge each other? Are only *some* of us called to fundamental Christianity? Why do we ostracise those as being fundamental and "not normal?"

Just wondering what you think. I know what I think, but share with me a little, will ya? ;-)

An answer to an obvious question

Obama's support from "born-again" Christians

Interesting. Especially, in the midst of all the statistics, they included one at the end, that even though 48% of voters claim to be "born-again" Christians, only one in ten (10%) is an evangelical Christian with a biblical worldview and understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ.

That's a big difference. And a bigger prayer need.

Debrief, Part Two

Cuba and Miami: 'cause it's short, and I don't have a lot of time today.

I learned this from a college prof, who had a student from Cuba: this occurred within the last decade.

Did you know that Cuba sends it's extra bad or annoying criminals to the US? Specifically, obviously, to Miami. Isn't that nice of them? The student of this teacher was "exported" to Florida, along with his father, leaving the rest of their family, for stealing - twice.

I just thought this was an interesting piece of trivia, and wonder why it has never been addressed.

He is so Good!

In my Bible study today, I read something that I just had to share, especially in light of another discussion going on in a different blog.

Psalm 129:1-5
"Since my youth they have often attacked me - let Israel say -
Since my youth they have often attacked me, but they have not prevailed against me.
Plowmen plowed over my back, they made their furrows long.
The Lord is righteous, He has cut the ropes of the wicked.
Let all who hate Zion be driven back in disgrace."

Study notes:
The enemy, the world system, and our own flesh try to convince us that we're free when we are out from under authority and can do as we please. The Bible and life experience teach us something completely different. Only under the umbrella of God's trustworthy, for-us authority do we find our spacious place.
Only He can clarify our clouded belief systems.
Beth Moore, Stepping Up

Today, this was an reassuring answer to prayer.

Pumpkin Question

So, this pumpkin is trying to kill me either through the knife or frustration, one of the two.

After I cook it, the peel should come off easy, right? And should the insides look somewhat transparent, not like they looked when I put them in? Because I am having to use a knife to cut the peel off, and the part of the pumpkin by the pan looks "done" but the rest of it doesn't. Am I cutting too big of pieces? I know Pioneer Woman used small pumpkins... AACCKKKK!

I am just ready to throw this one in the trash, but it's my special Sugar Baby one from the Punkin' Patch, and I was hoping to use it!

Conference Debrief, Part One

Ok, so maybe the whole Medianites joke was a little difficult? Here's a clue:

Midianites: Basically, bad guys in the Bible. There are differing opinions as to how many groups there were, but originally they were descendants of Abraham through Keturah (his wife after Sarah died). Several times they were oppressive to Israel, or tried to exterminate Israel, and God gave Israel victory over them. Basically - bad guys.

Medianites: CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, take your pick of any media that doesn't seem to be objectively reporting the facts. like, at all. ;-)

And I repeat, "isn't that awesome?" (In my opinion, and I'm guessing yours, because no matter who you're voting for, you can't excuse what the media has shamefully done with this election.)

********************************************************************
Anyway, since no one introduced any good questions, (and probably didn't really know what to ask, I'm guessing) I will start with a little something that made me cry. Because validation always does-- does it make you cry too?

Lately, in light of the election, I have been pretty frustrated. By many things, but basically because I do not understand what educated American, possibly add in here "Christian," could be "undecided" about who to vote for. And as this has gone on, it just seems like if you do your research and don't let the Medianites do it for you, you would know who your choice was. But during my prayer time of questioning, I just really felt like God was telling me that He is in Control. (I know we understand that God sets up kings and governments, but this was something more) And during the conference, this was validated. That God is in control, but this very well could be the beginning of the fall of America. Possibly that our judgement has already begun. Not even looking at what all else can and will send us reeling into a tailspin, the partisanship of the media and the difficulty of finding real answers as voters is enough to make me wonder "What is going on?" But we will get what we want, and we will reap what we sow. Haven't we been hearing the saying for years - that if God doesn't judge America, He's gonna have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah?
Anywho-- He just totally gave me that gift in my prayer time, and then through many of the speakers, validated that I am not weird in my (gift of) understanding-- If certain things continue to happen, plus all the Perfect Storms that are brewing within and without, America as we know it is over. And, it's ok. We should pray and fast, and possibly gain a reprieve, but His End Game is coming, and America, with or without us (!) will fall.

Ok, further topics: Israel, the AntiChrist/Mahdi, the Slovanian group behind us, Cuba and Miami, Do Not Fear, More Election Stuff (not a lot, just a little, but I just have to share), or the Perfect Storms.
Let me know what you want to hear, because I just have the hardest time picking what to say next.

Well, Now I Know

I now know what subcutaneous tissue looks like.

But Gabe told me I don't need stitches. And I didn't want the bill.

(I stabbed myself while trying to cut a pumpkin to roast it. That sucker was tough! Me, though, not so much. Knife went right in -- subcutaneous tissue came right out. :-)

Home Again

Wow. wow wow wow wow.

It's frustrating that I cannot possibly explain or encourage you to attend this conference by using words to describe how tremendously good it is. But I never regret taking time off, begging someone to take the girls, and spending the money to go. Never. I would do nearly anything to go.

I don't know what you would call this, but under the name "Strategic Perspectives" is the line "Intel, Insight and Inspiration." That describes it perfectly.

I have so much to share- I love this conference because it defines my focus. Where does my focus need to be? On God. No matter what is happening in our country and world, I need to look to the one who is in control. On what He is tellling me. And that is something else! I always get some sort of validation! Do you understand how sweet that is to me? To know that I know that He is talking to me. To me! In my prayer time He is giving me secrets and understanding that I don't deserve, and then He is gracious enough to validate it through a trusted source. The God of the Universe, My Saviour, cares enough about me to calm and direct my heart.

So, before I start in on sharing a few gleanings with you, feel free to ask any questions, and they will direct what I start with. But first.....

The hottest new term coined by Amir Tsarfati this year that everyone, including the other speakers went nuts over....

The Medianites.

Isn't that awesome!??!

Funny How God Works

I saw a bumper sticker tonight that just grieved my heart to the point of tears. I've been picking up on this for a while, but sometimes it hits home pretty hard.

"Men are Idiots, and I married their King."

Now, I know that this is all in fun, and is meant to be a joke. But it ties in well to what God showed me in Bible Study. One of the questions a few weeks ago was "If God hadn't been for you, what or who would you be now?" This was at the end of the homework, and I didn't see this one comin' for nothin'. But the answer was swift and immediate:

"A raging femi-nazi with a beaten-down, discouraged husband, if one at all, and children who have no respect for the Biblical roles of men and fatherhood."

And to tell you the truth, this frightened me. What I would have been. I hear the way some women talk, and I hear myself 6-10 years ago. From teen years into marriage, this is what I believed. It is a wonder I had any male friends whatsoever. But I did- does this mean that they in part believed this too? And Gabe? I know he didn't, but I can't imagine the patience it took for him to put up with my "better-than-you" attitude. But God was for me, and He is molding me into a usable instrument for His glory.

Just a joke? I believe I've heard it quoted more than once, "All jokes are based partially in what we believe." What a tragedy. When what the church needs (ie. what WE need) more than ever is a rising up of Godly men of character, but the world would rather beat them to a pulp. Ladies, this is something we should fight with word and deed: Our men are men of God; we support and respect them.

If you've been raised with me in this generation and struggle with the feminist mentality, pray that God would work a miracle in your heart. What freedom I now know, even as I wrestle with my own controlling personality, in knowing my purpose and my responsiblities-- My Biblical role as a Woman and Helpmeet. I only pray that I could share this victory with some of you who don't have this freedom. I've been there, and if you want someone to pray for you, or if you need encouragement or ideas on where to start, let me know. I would be honored to walk along side you.

Hmmm.

Pneumonic Plague in Grand Canyon, Kills Biologist

So much to do!

We've had kinda a off and on week-- we get real motivated, and then crash :-) At least me....

I did get the tomatoes canned, which was nice, but then I was SO exhausted that we were totally un-frugal and ordered papa johns pizza for dinner. I know, but I was really really tired.

Anyway! Enough whining. Gabe hasn't been feeling so good, so we've stayed home pretty much the whole week, until today and I realized that we are leaving tomorrow, and I am driving to Melia's preschool field trip (Yea Smallwoods!) soooo, that means I have to get everything done today for the whole weekend! Yikes!

But, I did get some shopping in, and wanted to let my local friendly frugal financiers in on some deals :-) (aren't I clever? NO? well, I won't share then.... ;-)

What I found: Albertsons Sale Paper

****They have some albertsons brand dairy on sale, and the butter isn't a real good deal at 10/$10 because it's only 1/2 lb, not the full 16 oz. At costco, regular price I get my butter for $1.78/lb when I buy the 4 pack. BUT the Sour Cream is the full 16oz container, and you can get regular, light, or fat free for a $1 each! I bought 4....;-)
****They also have 2 liter pop on sale for 10/$10, but with 7Up, A&W, and Sunkist, if you buy 10, you get a mail in catalina at the register for $10, so free pop! While we don't drink a lot, I thought 7Up is good to have for punches, and party season is coming, and A&W is always good for those random Root Beer float nights. What? You don't have those? Well, now you can!
****And, they have a display or you can clip the coupon from their flyer, but they have "24 Ways to Get Free Candy or Pizza!" I used two; one for buying 3/$9 Coffeemate (yes, we still drink it...) and one for 5/$5 Taco Bell Salsa. So then I got two free Albertsons brand pizzas. A little bit more frugal than Papa Johns, though not as yummy!
****If you find carts in the middle of the frozen pizza aisle like I did, they have markdown stuff in them. One was full of those "To-Go" Lipton tea packets, with different flavors, each $1. I grabbed a few, but left about a hundred for everyone else. I think I was being generous, don't you?....

And yes, if you are wondering, I am feeling quite a bit onery today.... Too much stress. Want to come help me with my laundry?
I am so excited about this weekend! Don't miss me too much! (If you don't remember, this weekend is our Strategic Perspectives Conference.... ack! I get goosebumps just writing the name! Woo HOO!)

The Problem With Misconceptions

So, today, I bit the bullet and picked all the ripe tomatoes and set about to can them. I thought they would be "diced," but after peeling them, they are more like some stewed, some crushed. But tomatoes, in their own juice with lemon juice and salt. NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! (Because I bet if you check your pantry like me, the cans from the store all have this in them. Grrr.)

My misconception? I have never peeled the tomatoes before because I thought it would be too hard. Holy Moly. Was I wrong! Talk about easy! They just peel right off, kinda like a sunburn.... (I know, me and my weird mental pictures.)

Pictures later. They have to hot water bath for 40 (!) minutes. Whew~!

Verifiably Insane IMO

How unbelievable, and yet genius, in a terrifying way.

Stripper

Well, we now have a little stripper child. Kiera knows how to take her clothes off, and she especially likes running around without a diaper... I'd love to post a picture of her cute little baby butt-cheeks, but I know, we don't want to necessarily show that off... ;-)

Now, if she'd only remember to go potty on the pot, then I wouldn't have to chase her around to put that diaper back on!

And, changing subjects yet again....

I just bought "Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life" by David Servan-Schreiber MD PHD.

Anybody heard of it or read it?

I've been looking at it for a few weeks at work, and finally decided that I needed to get it. From the jacket, it sounds more like what I personally believe about fighting cancer--More from the preventative, health-centered approach than the "cure the disease" side. But we'll see what it says, especially in regards to genetic mutations.

VBACs

To Answer a few questions: If we go this route...

We would probably seek to stay there the last week or two, as Gabe says no way to driving while I'm laboring :-) I'm not too worried about the timing, as w/ Melia, my water didn't break until 41 weeks, and w/ Kiera's section at 39 weeks, I wasn't dialated at all. So I seriously doubt I will go early :-)

No inductions. With VBAC's this is a no-no, as it greatly increases the chance of rupture. Plus, I think I would refuse pitocin anyway, considering my last experience. All natural baby!

Visitors? I know. This is what has been less than supportive, but ideally, we will be back in just a few days anyway. And I am not saying you can't come to Spokane ;-) It will be May, after all. No inclement weather to worry about! Plus, now that I have this easy to update blog, you will have pictures!

I think I got them all. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have-- But remember, this is a new road for me too! I may not know it all right away, but hopefully I will have more answers after I visit the other doc later. And please pray. I don't want to be doing this for me. I want to do this to glorify Him, so whether the doors open or close, I want my focus to be right. Thanks so much!

Appointment Update

Well, just one baby in there. (Whew! ;-)

Everything looks fine; he's not worried about my weird digestive issues; we have a picture of our little blob... And we got to see the heartbeat, but not hear it... Bummer! I was hoping for an early indicator of sex....

And the best part: He (dr) is totally supportive of doing most of my prenatal appts here, even if I am going to attempt a VBAC in Spokane. I know this isn't something I've talked a whole lot about here on the blog, but we are going to consider it. I've received many responses that were less than supportive, but we have been praying that if God opens the doors for us to go through with a VBAC, that is what we are going to do.

PS- Melia loves having a picture of the baby. "It's so tiny, isn't it Mama?"

Food Poll

So, for Melia, the real answer is pancakes. Tuesday morning I decided that is what we were having, and she ate eleven. Smaller ones, but still. Eleven.

And Kiera? All those are her choice options that she would eat all day long, but she really goes crazy for watermelon and berries. She would sneak around the house to eat the raspberries off before we picked them... and chose to eat the strawberries instead of her birthday cake. :-) And when I say crazy for watermelon, that is the best word picture I can think of. Literally, crazy.

Not much new here...

I think instead of morning sickness, this is hitting me more as evening sickness. Or evening stomach ache. Not really nausea, just a heavy uncomfortable feeling. Another question to put on the list for the appt this week!

So, due to my not feeling very good at all, we haven't done much recently. Melia and I did make banana choc chip muffins this afternoon, using a different recipe than I normally use. The results reminded me of why I love the mayo (I use sour cream) recipe. The muffins are just so moist, whereas these are just... normal. So, scrapping this recipe will be on my list of to-dos tomorrow :-)

And I experienced a good reason to help explain to some of you who wonder why I force Melia to take naps most of the time, even though she's four. Today was a no-nap day. This evening, we went to Gramps house for dinner with Mom. I got so frustrated! It was like she didn't comprehend what I was saying. Several times I would tell her something, only to have her immediately return to what she was doing and pay me no mind. She *looked* like she was listening, but most certainly was not. And the big difference? Normally, she does very well. I appreciate her help, and she enjoys listening and pleasing me. Most of the time we get along great. But she had to have a couple time outs tonight, and one time I just stopped them from failing to do what I told them to do, and did it myself. (This was effective, I think, because they both wanted to do it, and were not working together. Like I said-I think. We'll see.) Anyway, one example of why she needs her nap. Plus, because limiting her sleep only makes her wake up earlier, not later....! And I'll take as late as I can get! ;-)

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Yea, I think it is actually prego sickness

Not necessarily morning sickness, but definitely the upset, achy stomach. It just seems to come and go, never *very* bad, but enough to make me not want to do anything. (No shopping tonight Brooke, just wasn't gonna happen... Maybe tomorrow--hopefully everything isn't gone!)

At least my first appointment is Friday, so it'll become a little more real.

Fun Poll - let's see what you know!

Or how well you know kids in general :-)

And these are for real- I didn't include candy because they aren't given free access to it, otherwise it would probably win!

"Following"

Have you tried the blogger follower yet? I love it-- it makes it so much easier and faster to see who has posted today, then you don't waste time going to each blog just to check it! Try it out!

Puttin' Up Food

Status:
Apple Peel Jelly: Very pretty in the jars! Tastes good, not a whole lot like apples, but it's jelly nonetheless. When I spread it on, well... let's just picture a stranded jellyfish on the beach. Yep, that's pretty much what I am spreading on my biscuit... Glad I don't have too many prego hang ups yet!

Apple Butter: Tasted good, but had a slightly scorched aftertaste. I think that because it cooks down, and then you add more applesauce, the sauce left on the side of the pot caused this. Oh well. 7 quarts of applesauce down the drain.

Pumpkin Puree: Not bad. Not too much work, and pretty easy to bag and freeze. One pumpkin done, four to go.

Pumpkin Butter: (Because mom likes it, I tried it!) Good! Surprisingly good :-)

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds: Yummy :-) reminds me of popcorn. Kiera was stuffing them in by the handful....

Dried Apples: ...are we done yet?.....

The Faith of a Child, and Expectations of a Daddy

Gabe and the cousins, brothers, uncles, and dads :-) have been hunting this weekend. Shaun was the first AllMightyHunter to take a "biggest one I've ever been around" (per my grandpa B) four point on opening day. (Yea Shaun!) No one else has taken anything, yet.

Tonight, Gramps asked Melia if Daddy doesn't get a deer, will she ask Uncle Shaun for some deer meat? (Because she really really likes venison.)

Her reply?
No, because Daddy will kill a deer.
Of course he will. That's what Daddy does when he goes hunting. Kill a deer.

And yes, she has seen Bambi....

Special Things From Today

Kiera is putting words together into sentences. She actually has been for a while, but now I am more able to understand what she is saying.

Tonight we had dinner with my mom's family, and the girls especially love my cousins Chelsea and Celeste. On the way home, both girls started to break down because "they were going to miss them" and "we love them very much." I asked them not to cry, and that we would see them again. Kiera did great, so good in fact that as Melia continued to whimper, she said, "No cry, Momma says." Isn't that great? I was thrilled :-)

We have started praying all together in Kiera's room before bed (instead of seperately), but tonight Melia said she wanted to pray again when I was tucking her in. I asked if she forgot something, she said yes, so we folded our hands and closed our eyes, and I told her to go ahead. "Please help Mommy's tummy to feel better, and please help her be better in the morning." *insert big smiley face* what a rush, having my little four year old pray for me :-)

And, for those of you closer to me, praying with us, my cousin Amy who had a biopsy Wednesday, found out today that it is negative for cancer! Yea God! Thank you Lord, and please Bless the rest of her journey!

A Different Day

So, something is hitting me. I woke up this morning nauseated, not wanting to even move. The nausea finally passed as I force fed myself -- I hate that feeling of eating when you feel sick! You just know it's gonna come back up, but at least for me, morning sickness has not yet resulted in having a morning meeting with the porcelain throne. I guess this reasoning rules out the flu...

But the extreme wimpy feeling is hanging on; I just can't wait for naptime so I can lay down. Melia keeps saying she is sorry I don't feel good-- it's nice that she is old enough to remember how she feels when she doesn't feel good, so she understands.

Naptime is only half a batch of cookies away.... I'm making breakfast cookies for Gabe to take hunting with him; per Melia's idea, and his request. Not an option, as it starts tomorrow!

What scares me about homeschooling....

If you have not yet checked out the Bakers Dozen blog, you really should. I am constantly amazed by their life with 13 children!

And here, their Japanese Style dinner. Ok, so I could try to do a theme dinner. No problem.

But scroll down.... all the way down to the sushi. SUSHI?!!!

Yes. Look at it. It's amazing.

This is what I am afraid of. Some people are just creatively gifted.

Me, on the other hand, I will be purchasing books written by the rest of them.....

Now I'm the copycat

Tonight at Bible Study, I just had to copy what Beth Moore said in the video. Here goes (paraphrased):

When I am speaking (or in my case, writing) strongly, please allow it to come across as passionate and not condemning.

I feel this is often the case, especially when I am writing about scripture. I'm just so excited and passionate about what God is teaching me that I could be read as "I'm right, You're wrong," mentality. I don't mean to! So please, make the choice to read it as a passionate, desperate-for-Him voice, and not a judgemental/condemning attitude! :-)

You SOOOO Owe Me!!

Another Kiera treasure:

Last week, I forgot to tell you about our apple blessing! We went out with our neighbor Tasha and her daughter Selene and gleaned apples from some darling people from our church. I just love them!

So we have a few boxes sitting here at home that I am working on. Currently going: dehydrator, crockpot with Apple Butter, and soaking overnight Apple Peel Jelly. I know. Overachiever. Maybe this is a warning that my second trimester might not be so easy. Who knows... (By the way copycat Brooke-- did you catch that? Get to work girl: dried apples, apple butter, apple peel jelly.....)

ANYWAY, Kiera has been eating her fair share of apples. And you know those fun treasures she sometimes surprises us with? Well!!!! Earlier today, her poop was ummm... runny. (sorry, I know, but this is my world...) AND TONIGHT I found APPLESAUCE in her diaper!!!! I laughed so hard, and Melia thought it was hilarious! I am talking brightly colored applesauce-- I could've served it up for dinner! (Are you sick yet?!!!) SO funny.

You owe me why? I really really wanted to take a picture.

But I didn't. And you'd better appreciate it too! ;-)

9 cents/lb pumpkins

Today only, the Food Pavilions have their pumpkins on sale for 9 pennies a pound.

Does anyone know of any better deals? If not, I am thinking I want to try to do this pumpkin puree, so gonna be pickin' up a few punkins :-)

Actually kinda proud of myself...Pizza

So, I know. Pizza is not that difficult. But I just don't really do pizza. Don't crave it, don't make it weekly, nothin' like that. But tonight I did. And Gabe was impressed. :-)

Since Rachael said she used Tammy's breadsticks recipe for a pizza crust, I did that. And I remembered something special from my Costco food court pizza making days: I docked the dough :-) I used my meat holder cutter thingamobob. It worked good. ;-)

And just so you know, don't knock the food court workers. They make just as much as most anyone else in there, so don't feel sorry for them. They start out at $10+/hr too! (We had this conversation at work last week-- the supervisor got a pity party from someone, and she desperately wanted to retort that "thanks, but I do make $**/hour, so no thanks!") And hey, now I know how to dock a pizza so I don't get air pockets...valuable time I tell ya...

Anyway, so I used my homemade pizza sauce, courtesy of Tammy again (she's a goldmine of good recipes too!) And loaded it up with grilled chicken, tomatoes on my side, and pineapple on Gabe's. Here's a before-oven pic:

And an after-already-been-consumed pic:

No, the tomatoes weren't actually green. They were yellow, and yummy. It was the camera...

It was good. I will admit that, from a non-pizza craver. And boy, apparently I am overdoing myself. Gabe said I made two "better than usual" meals today. The other one was chicken fried rice for lunch (I did it Karalee! I actually followed the directions and it turned out good! Woo Hoo! ;-) Maybe I'd better slow down, otherwise when the funky prego smell issues turn up, we'll all starve.....

What touched me today...

"We are held in the hands of the One who makes no mistakes."
Chuck Missler

Do I trust Him? Do I really really trust Him? Do I believe that whatever He wills or allows in my life is aimed at my best and His glory? No matter if I am looking at another C-section or breast cancer, do I trust HIM?

Right now? Yes.

Tomorrow? Probably not.

But that is why I am SO thankful that He is faithful to answer us and bring us back under His wing when we cry out to Him. So eternally thankful.

As heard on 20 Countdown Magazine....

Psalms 1:1
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

Mark Hall, in reference to their new song "Slow Fade," (which I LOVE!) that we need to love the law of our Lord and not excuse ourselves from it. What a powerful verse! I heard this and just had to come home and look it up-- it inspired me to post it :-)

Genesis 21: 6`

Genesis 21:6
And Sarah said, "God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me."

Can you just picture the joy in this verse? I came across it while working on my copy of Genesis, and loved the sweet sweet sound of God making us laugh.

Say What!???

I copied this from Wikipedia after hearing it on KLOVE yesterday.

"In September 2008, the European Parliament deemed Mr. Clean potentially offensive, because his build might imply that cleaning can only be accomplished by a muscular man."

I'm sorry- But what warped reality are they living in?

And, ummm.. can I move there? ;-)

Matthew 25: The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Mat 25:1-Mat 25:13 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five [were] foolish. They that [were] foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, [Not so]; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

So, if you read Kari's comment, read on. If not, go here, scroll wayyyy down :-) and read it.

Here are the questions that came to me as I was reading her thoughts-- and I don't know these answers for sure, but it made me wonder, so you get to wonder too! And honestly, I don't consider the lamps or oil being symbolic or the point of the parable, so that isn't what I was thinking about.

1. Why does the bible refer to them as wise and foolish? Not just unlucky, but wise and foolish. Pretty strong words. (All versions I checked either used these words, or prudent in place of wise) (If you question how strong these words are, do a quick review of Proverbs!)

2. How does the response, "Verily I say unto you, I know you not," change how you view the virgins in regards to being foolish?

3. Do you believe that the virgins represent only believers, because they are all waiting for their bridegroom, or that they represent unbelievers and believers because the bridegroom says "I know you not?"

4. The word "watch" is translated according to the meanings "to watch, or give strict attention to, be cautious, active." Do you think this means "to be actively watching/looking for His return," or that "we should live our lives and just not fall away?"

Now, to reiterate: Please, if you are going to comment, pray and meditate on this. Don't just react. See what God is telling you!
And I am going to be guarded in what I allow commented. Different views are fine, but if anyone comes across as being negative/judgemental to someone else, or heretical(!) I will moderate. Thanks for your understanding!

Comments on the Poll

I am just opening up this post to allow comments on the poll, and to say my piece quickly.

I really really enjoyed doing the discussion. I loved being challenged to find support or look deeper into what others were claiming. I normally am terrified of conflict, but God totally, through prayer, helped me to see that I should not be afraid of people disagreeing with me, but to welcome some fine tuning! And vice versa, that what He is teaching me is also good for others to glean from. We are all at different points in our walks with God, and "Scripture is alive and active" speaking to us where we are, making what we learn different, at different points. (Like for some reason, God just has me in an excited place about when Jesus is coming back-- and I wouldn't trade it for anything! But that doesn't mean everyone else is there too! Maybe He just knows I need some excitment in my cooking/laundry/dishes/cleaning toys day-to-day life:-)

Kari's comment that she would love to discuss other scripture's I used made me wonder if it would be fun to look at smaller portions together and share what God is teaching us. Personally, I found this to be so exhilarating that I would enjoy doing this. If I did, I would require that people commenting and sharing please do so prayerfully, and to meditate on the scripture to fully "get" what the Lord has for us. To share what God is teaching you is much more than just sharing what you think.

So anyway, let me know. And I will go by what the poll says, so make sure you vote :-)

Like-Larry's Chicken Strips

I know, I am late posting this, as I promised it weeks ago. I just couldn't come up with a good picture! But this one is decent, barring Melia's bizarre smile.

This recipe is originally from over at Baker's Dozen. She has lots of recipes that I have tried and want to try-- fun kid friendly ones. Crepes are one of Melia's favorite breakfasts-- "the ones that roll up, mommy." I tried the chicken recipe because my friend Brooke said she did and "they taste exactly like Larry's, only baked!" So, I had to try.

Now, I have to relate to you the only other time I have ever tried to cook Larry's. (For those of you who don't know me, my siblings and I all worked at this little drive-in called Larry's that just plain has the best boneless chicken strips anywhere.) I was still living at home, and I bought all the ingredients, heated up the oil, and proceeded to catch the stove-top on fire. And haven't tried since.

But when I read through the recipe from Baker's Dozen, I thought, "that is almost exactly like Larry's." As the following: BD recipe- flour, beaten egg, bread crumbs. Larry's- flour, milk, cracker meal. Basically the same thing. So, my recipe: flour, milk, italian bread crumbs. (Because two giant jugs of italian bread crumbs at Costco is approx. $4.50)

When you bite into it the first time, you will notice the italian seasoning. Maybe even the second bite. If you're really into it, maybe the whole meal. But not one time after that! We are truly enjoying this frugal recipe-- and a cheaper option is to buy the fresh strips when they are on sale, and freeze them up. Locally, Food Pavilion often has them for $1.78/lb when you buy 10 lbs. And yea, 10 lbs is a lot, but when I was stacking them in my freezer, I appreciated that I had several meals worth stored! Oh yea, and to make them even more like Larry's cut the strips in two or three pieces so they're small and skinny, and then beat them a little when you are breading them :-)

And... for those of you who really wish they could find Larry's sauces, I included the ones we have in the picture. Longhorn BBQ sauce and Minors Sweet and Sour, both available at URM cash and carry in Sunnyslope. No, I don't know which ranch he uses, and the tartar is made from scratch. Hope that helps. Ask Darcy or Shaun if they know about the Ranch situation :-) Or better yet, maybe they will comment with an answer!
