What do YOU do?

What do you do when you've been let down? I'm talkin' a real heartbreaker here. Like cry your eyes out over.

I know, I know. Pray. And I did. And He opened my eyes to a few whys and hows, and helps to recovery.

But it still hurts. Especially 'cause it's a repeater. Likely one I will experience the rest of my life, and never really get over.

Ah, heaven.
Another thing I can look forward to there that just ain't gonna happen here, unless at some point I get a special miracle made just for me.

If you had driven by last night...

You would have seen my girls and I sitting on the porch, scarfing strawberries, angel food cake and chocolate cake.

Nice picture, huh?

We had a baby shower at the church, and since I was quite involved in the planning and happenings, the girls didn't get to sit and enjoy much time with me.

We had just a small piece of angel food cake and strawberries left over, plus I had promised Melia she could have a cupcake (the chocolate part of our feast.)

So, in the dusky twilight hours (more like 5 minutes), we sat outside, watched the stars (3) come out, and licked chocolate frosting off our fingers. Well, the girls did anyway.

They beat me to it.

A Rock

What I found in my silverware holder inside the dishwasher. Clean.

Apparently, it needed a washin'.

Sneaky Smirk

What I saw on Kiera's face as I realized she was peeing down the drain as the bathwater exited the tub.

Yummy Yummy BBQ Corn

Oh my oh my oh my. 'Dis is gooooodddd.....

I had never bbq'd or grilled corn, but the pictures just look so good. So I scanned a few recipes on Recipezaar and made up my own :-) Story of my cooking career... sort of.

I mixed 1/3 cube of melted butter with some Caribbean Jerk Seasoning (a healthy sprinkle :-),
brushed it on the corn, wrapped the corn with foil, and baked on the BBQ.

So, so good. Delirious, with a hint of spice. :-)

Question: Answer

I had a question! Yippee :-) Thanks Brenda!

"Did you ever decide what your gift is and do you want to share what it is?"

At the time I was concerned about my gift possibly being prophecy. Not in the "Old Testament prophet" sense, but in the "Spirit-prompted, Spirit-sustained, revelation-rooted, but mixed with human imperfection and fallibility and therefore in need of sifting." (definition by John Piper).
My main reasons for this:
1. I just know--
2. Twice in the last 2-3 years, I knew what the picture was before the puzzle was put together. I prayed about it and knew the answer. One was something quite large in relation to escatology, and the other was the identity of the "restrainer." Both answers I was given, then in the following teachings and study the rest of the puzzle was put together (over the time frame of months and minutes, respectively). These occurences were startling to me because neither topic was something that I had studied before, nor should have been able to understand without further study.

What now? I pray and study and grow. I still feel like such a young Christian, but the positive aspect is that I feel I can trust more what the Spirit tells me instead of thinking of not. I need to learn more so that I am able to compare my revelations to the authority of Scripture. I view this as something God will develop in me over the course of my life :-)

Another gifting? Exhortation/Encouragement. I tend to see things in black and white, so I can cut through alot of "worldly views" and get right to the heart of the matter which needs addressing. (the main definition I identified with - or can remember from two Sundays ago...)

The problem? I am human, and therefore more fallible than not :-) My words and thoughts mess up everything... But at least I am coming to greater understanding that even though I screw up, God still has a purpose for me and His gifts are to be used, not laid on the shelf.

It was all in my head...

I didn't mess up as bad as I thought. I asked for the right days off in June for my grandparents anniversary, but in my head I was focused on June 29 instead of June 22.

Maybe because that weekend is Melia's birthday?

Interesting Read: "God Doesn't Have Grandchildren"

I really enjoyed this article. At first the title seems, well, sort of a "duh." But in getting into it, I recognize a LOT of truth regarding my generation and our faith. Much of it I see in myself, which makes even more grateful that God sought me out and made me His own, not "just a Christian." It also makes me ache even more for those I know whose faith "is no deeper than their pride," with no evidence of fruit or discipleship in their lives, even though they profess the Christian faith.

I know this sounds odd to some, but you will understand if you choose to read it.

Ever do this?

I think I really screwed up. I messed up my "dates."

I may have even asked for the wrong weekend off.

My grandparents 60th anniversary reception is in June, and my planning is off by a whole week.

Oh, no no no no no......

What is wrong with me?????!!!!!

Just Because...

I am feeling so-oooooo uncreative lately, I am thinking I would like to do a Question and Answer post :-)

Silly?
Maybe.

Fun?
I think so!

Interesting?
Depends on how "in-to" kids, diapers, cats, flowers, gardening, Christian growth... you are.

So... Ask Away! I would be happy to answer most any questions you may have about my oh-so-(un)fascinating life!

Please Pray: Chapman Family

One of Steven Curtis Chapman's adopted Chinese daughters died yesterday in a tragic accident.

Please pray for the family and especially the son who was driving-- he will have a terrible guilt to overcome in this lifetime. Pray for peace and security in God's will; He is the great Comforter.

MC: Day 9

Tonight we are going to celebrate me finishing my fast/cleanse/diet-- whatever I should now refer to it as :-)

And -- just guess, I dare you.... Larry's Chicken is on the menu!

I am also going to run to Costco this afternoon with the girls and get some strawberries and pound cake for dessert!

My Ending Opinions:

Master Cleanse: Not for me. After discussing her fasts with my sister, we agreed that a low calorie/sugar meal plan is not for me. She has successfully completed fruit/vegie fasts, so if I try another one in the future, I will probably think about this. I am not sure if I really cleansed anything, although I know I did detox off caffeine quite a bit. I am sure it just helped my body to clean itself-- like a fast would do, providing time for all the organs to play catch-up, if you will.

Veggie Soup Diet: I really like this. I don't feel hungry, I don't lack energy. The soup is fantastic, in taste and economy. It is easy to make a big batch and save for later. The only problem I had was deciding what to do about breakfast-- Normally this would probably not be an issue, but since I was determined not to eat anything but veggie soup and liquids, I just had juice.
I do plan on in the future continuing to make this soup and have it on hand for meal replacement. If I replace one meal a day with this soup, I should cut at least (!) 300+ calories a day from my intake. Plus get a Big vitamin boost! It should also be great to have for Gabe to take to work.

Success? I would say so. I learned a great deal of self-control and discipline, which is always good to practice. My clothes are a little looser, I have more energy. I am learning bit by bit to lean on God, not myself. To take my decisions to Him instead of my own knowledge.

Hope this proves beneficial to some of you out there as well! And you can listen for my groans of pleasure when I am eating Larry's tonight :-)

Humble Bumble

Grandma Rennea gave us her Humble Bumble Home, in hopes that we could put it to good use. Now, being the optimistic person I am, I hoped too, but doubted that I would be able to catch or lure a Bumblebee into our little house.

But God really came through again!

Yesterday, as I was moving rocks around our yard (an neverending job, I tell ya') I moved a big tuft of grass to put one down as part of my creative lawn edging. (really, it's because I don't know what else to do with them) Underneath the grass was a bumblebee! I screamed (of course!) and put the grass back down. I grabbed a bucket that was near me and put it over the bee as fast as I could. I had Melia hold it down (saying "DON'T MOVE IT") and ran inside to get our freshly washed jar that held our moth. We got the bee into the jar, and I rejoiced in the fact that it had no pollen on it's legs (this is supposed to mean it is a girl bee). And we put her in the fridge :-) (to slow her down, per home instructions)

And now she is happily crawling around her new home that we are supposed to keep her in for three days in hopes she becomes "maternity minded."

I am not sure she will, for my girls like to torment her. But we can hope! After all, God has provided so far, hasn't He!?!

And now, Ken, you know why I am especially interested in your bees! (Gabe just wants to know if they make honey :-) It would make for a fantastic kid science project!

God's Provision: Homeschooling

OK, so I love the outdoors. Except getting sunburned. And windburned. And cold. And hot. And wet.

But that's besides the point.

The point is that I want my children to grow up loving it too. Every little detail points to our Creator, and I want to use that to teach them about Him.
Except? How do I do that? Check this out- this is where HE comes in.

I have read about people catching pupas or caterpillars and raising them to butterfly-hood, then releasing them. My thought? "Yeah, right, I'll be able to do that. Because I am that talented."

And guess what He provided this spring? A pupa. It had made itself inside one of Melia's gardening tools, which I, well, sometimes... use. Ok, I admit it. Sometimes her are easier to find than mine. Hmm. Anyway, off track again. So- I picked up the spade, thinking OH! There is a spider's nest in there! I got a stick and started poking and prodding it, trying to loosen it up. I pulled away the white netting part, and found this neon green "thing" inside. I thought-- wait, aren't they supposed to hang upside down from a branch? Apparently not all, because this was definitely a pupa, or rather, a worm looking thing inside his protective white net barrier.

So we brought it inside, put him in a jar, and he changed. I was so worried I had killed him because he was turning darker, but then I saw "eyes" (little black spots), and the wings were becoming more defined. About 10 days later (guesstimate) he woke up, and was a cute little moth. And we set him free :-)

"I'm hungry!"

Isn't that just amazing? God provided this experience for my children. All I had to do was follow along and enjoy the ride. What a thought. Especially when I am so insecure about the quality of education I will be able to give my kids-- to think that it is not what I am giving them, but what God is providing for them through me.

I have another great story of His perfect provision to tell you tomorrow! (I still have to take pictures...)

Kiera likes Mud.

Likes to eat it, that is.
I think she might be my baker. She really likes to mix things together.

MC: Day 7, but not really

I am feeling much better today. Not so weak, although a bit. Not so hungry :-) Not so grumpy!

And the soup is so flavorful, I don't think I will get tired of it in the next two days, which is exciting.

I just have to get used to a constantly burned tongue.

Sunday, May 18, 2008

Oh yeahh.....

MMmmmmm Mmmmm Good.

MC: Day 6 Evening

I am quitting. I have a pot of vegie soup simmering as I type.

I made it through today, but this morning I had an experience I do not wish to repeat. When Kiera got up, (around 7:15 am) I was very very weak. After I took care of her morning diaper, I started to get shaky. I sat down on the couch and started sweating and getting very nauseated. I think my blood sugar really took a dive. Fortunately, Gabe was able to get me some Ningxia Red juice, and I drank that and some water, which did the trick.

I hardened myself that I was not going to quit. I made it through church, and then while I was at work, I prayed that God would give me a peace about what to do. I almost immediately knew I needed to switch over to the soup, and tonight would be a good time instead of tomorrow to prevent having a crash happen again. It's funny, I really was fighting the idea of quitting, but when I prayed about it, God totally changed my mind and gave me peace.

But then! I had to work all day knowing I was going to get to eat tonight... It took a long time :-) But I was able to stay busy and this helped. And in 20 minutes, I get to eat soup.

Hallelujah! :-)

MC: Day 5 Evening-- Larry's Chicken

I was dreaming of Larry's chicken... it almost feels like homesickness!

2 more days, then hopefully onto Vegie soup. You have no idea how good that sounds. AND I hope the next two days pass quickly as I have to work. Either they will be quick, or they will draaaaggg.....

And do you know what is even better about switching to vegie soup? I have a softball game Tuesday night... I have been very nervous about passing out as I am swinging the bat...but hopefully I will be all up on my energy! :-)

What I miss the most now....

I really miss cooking. Although we do save a lot of money with just doing it simple.

But I really miss cooking, especially since two of my favorite blogs are cooking blogs....

And then eating what I cook. I am really starting to hate lemonade. Real lemonade anyway. It is so tart and bitter-- ugh.

Friday, May 16, 2008

MC: Day 4 Evening

Today is definitely feeling more "normal." I am feeling the blood sugar swings, and bizarrely enough, I have had several episodes of painful hiccups. And hiccups give me heartburn. And let me tell you... lemonade burns when combined with heartburn. Burns. burns. burns.

By the way, I have a very funny husband. Earlier today I mentioned that I knew there were some good deals out and about, but that I didn't want to go get them. (dizziness, hunger pangs, two toddlers...) So he commands me to go get them. Even if I didn't feel like it, he felt like I should. And thank you Lord he did, for I got some really good deals. (see below :-)

And while shopping, I did run into some... well, let's call it lust, shall we? A lady passed me in an aisle with fresh cooked deli chicken strips.

My knees turned to jelly, my words slurred. My nose betrayed me, and my bodily functions went to pot. lust lust lust. or gluttony?

:-) 5 days to go. Almost halfway there. And feeling much much better.

:-) Laundry Soap for a $1~~~Woo Hoo!

That's enought to get me out of my self-inflicted in house probation :-)

MC: Day 4 Morning

Ok, so I have a plan.

I mixed up my second batch of lemonade today-- the first lasted me three days, with quite a bit of sampling on the first day to try to get it palatable. I have decided to finish this batch, then switch to the vegetable soup diet to finish up. I am estimating this should last me through day 7 because I watered it down more to help the gagging.

I was concerned about getting sick (from solids) on Gabe's birthday, so if I do this I will probably have a whole day of vegie soup to get back on solids again. I know this sounds like I am sort of quitting, and I would agree, but I didn't want to buy a whole bag of lemons for possibly only one day.

So my mind and I have compromised.... not quitting, but continuing on a "liquid" fast for the full time. :-)

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Isn't it Interesting?

Here I am. Day three. Mid afternoon. No headache. Slightly weak, but able to do most tasks.

And yet, my mind plays tricks on me. It is trying to weasle any way out of this I can. I am quite dizzy, so my mind says "Uh-oh. You'd better quit. We don't want you to pass out or anything." But of course when I asked Gabe's opinion, he said that I should probably drink more lemonade and make sure I am getting lots of fluids.

A completely logical response, and yet still any little excuse I try to use to talk myself into quitting. Thank you Lord, that I have such a supportive husband who will keep me where I truly want to be.

Besides, if I quit, I will have just starved myself for three days for nothing. :-)

MC: Day Three, Morning

My headache is gone! I feel soo much better.

THANK YOU LORD!!!

Now at least I feel like I can be a mom... this was my main concern, not being very joyful or energetic with my children for 9 days. Is it really worth it? But for some reason (hmmm...) I felt like if I could just get through the caffeine withdrawal, I could make it.

I may be speaking too soon, as the headaches always get so much worse in the afternoon-evening. But at least we can go play outside this morning, and have some fun!

And thank you for your comments-- I do want this to be a spiritual journey as well, so I appreciate your words of support.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

MC: Day Two

This still sucks.

It is just a little better because I took an Aleve to help with my continued caffeine headache. And now instead of puckering, the juice makes me gag. I am not sure how long I can keep going. I feel so weak and have so little energy. To look forward to seven more days is discouraging.

Do you know how hard it is to avoid thinking about food? We are bombarded day in and out with pictures, commercials, sale papers :-)

I know, I know. I am doing this by choice. And I am choosing to keep going. I just hope it accomplishes it's purpose. And that the headaches would go away. And that I would not be so dizzy.

Any advice or words of experience out there?

Master Cleanse: Day One

This sucks.

I have a caffeine headache...the juice makes me pucker....and I just want to eat something. Anything would be preferable. I think it's really the headache, though. If only it would stop pounding....

One down. Eight to go.

It is 8:23, and I am headed to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

Starting Master Cleanse

Today I received my new juicer! Now I am ready to cleanse....

Except my schedule is all messed up. I can only do 9 days, because Gabe's birthday is 10 days, and then less than 10 days after that is my brother's graduation. So. Nine days it is!

Prayers for strength, endurance, faithfulness, energy, cleansing success.... any thing else you might I need.... are appreciated. I especially will be praying for clarification and more understanding regarding His lessons as of late.

Melia's New Friend and Babies

Melia has a new friend. She has a sister, and a mama, and a daddy. Her mama likes to give her lots of pony tails. Her sister's name is Kiera. Her name is Melia.

She lives in the bathroom mirror.

And.....
This weekend we inherited a VHS copy of Milo & Otis. Isn't it funny the things you don't necessarily remember about some movies? Well, I didn't remember that the girl doggy and kitty have babies. Literally, birth-in-view have babies.

So, after Melia had already watched it twice (it's her new morning movie), I walked in on "Kiera-are you having more babies? Oh, Kiera! More babies! Where is your new baby Kiera?" Kiera was hiding behind the closet door, having babies according to Melia.

Hm. Not so sure what to think about these "happenings."

How about you? Any Thoughts?

Another Prayer Request

I would love some prayer. I don't want to give you detailed specifics because I am talking to my Father about it. Or rather, I want to be listening. But here's the basics.

Our pastor is teaching on the gifts of the Spirit. This morning I felt like his words were exactly for me, that God is trying to tell me something. And the funny thing is, when I first started thinking about the gifts, I thought "That's mine." Ever since, I have been running from it, thinking, "no, that can't be mine. I'm not smart enough. that doesn't fit me at all." But more and more, God keeps bringing it to my mind, like

"Didn't you hear me last time? Do I need to repeat myself? Here, listen to this!"

And this morning, I guess I heard. I still don't know what to do, and I would like to ask for validation, but I know I already have all I need. He told me so. The sentences fit perfectly into what I feel God telling me to do sometimes, even though I very very rarely obey. (Please don't judge. People have been very... judgemental....demeaning... to make me not want to say anything.)

So... please pray. Pray that our Father would teach me what I need to know. That He would teach me boldness. That he would teach me scripture. Humility, gentleness, grace, love... you know. All the good stuff. And that He would help me to not be terrified.

Thank you.

Mouthy Suprise

As you know, Kerzon likes to steal straws. This morning there was one laying on the coffee table.

Kiera loves to blow bubbles, but she often loses the wands. We have these great little bubble solution holders that allow the kids to hold them without spilling-- they are the perfect little-hand size.

But when you lose the wand, there is this tiny hole beckoning to be filled.

Kiera thought the straw would fit perfectly. Then Kiera thought "What do I do with a straw? Drink of course!"

And Kiera blew bubbles.

Yard Saling

That looks wrong. Why does that title look wrong? Can I really spell sale-ing like that???

Anyway! You know how last week we were going to go yard saling (see, there it is again) with the specific intent to find Melia some clothes. It flopped. totally. like three sales in all flopped.

But!!! This morning Gabe came home from work and away - we - went!

We stopped at around 8-9 different sales, and bought a TON!

For the girls we picked a bag of clothes (well, for Melia) several puzzles, 30+books, and Melia's birthday present. We will probably give it to her early because I just can't wait that long. I know. I need to practice restraint. Stay tuned for a picture soon.

We also found a large dog crate to replace my mother-in-law's which our dog ate. Guess how much? We are talking about a $120 crate..... for (Rennea, skip this part!) $10!!!

Gabe found a bunch of stuff for him, including a guitar he'd been wanting.

ANDDDD.... You know how I've been talking about wanting to start reading the Narnia series to the girls??? Our boxed set is not complete because the loaned ones have not returned... But God must want me to start, because today I found the big, like-new, single book edition which contains the whole series. For a dollar!

He is just so good to us. Thank you Lord-- Thank you. We are so undeserving of everything, and you love us anyway, and then you delight in our worship. How blessed are we.

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Speaking of...

My "Family Room" email arrived this morning, containing an article titled

"The Joy of Narnia"

I apparently forgot to include that word when I was describing how I felt about reading the books as an adult, but if I were to sum it up in one thought? This would be the one I'd choose.

Rough Night

Poor Kiera had a rough night.

First, she climbed up on the table when I was waking Melia up for dinner (they are fighting colds and sleeping at random times), and she grabbed a steak knife which gave her a nice slice right on the top of her thumb. Then during dinner, she kept saying that the pointer on her other hand was hurting too... but we didn't see any cuts, so think she must have bit herself. She also bit her lip during the meal. After dinner we went outside for a quick run around, and Melia whacked Kiera in the face with the swing, giving her a bloody fat lip.

We called it quits after that and sat down with some popcorn to watch Dirty Jobs :-)

Great Shopping Day!

Gabe was so sweet this morning to stay home with the girls and allow me a couple of shopping hours to myself. I asked him because I knew there were some really good deals out there, but I needed to be able to think to make it work the best. And work it did! It was even better because I was able to pray before I left home-- I normally intend to do this, but so often am distracted by the two little voices in the back seat.

My first stop was Albertsons. I knew they had a great deal going on where if you buy 10 GM cereals/products for $20, then you got another $10 off. And I had coupons for all! Total I bought 2 Golden Grahams, 1 Kix, 1 Cinnamon Toast Crunch, 2 Fruity Cheerios, 2 boxes Nature Valley granola bars, and 2 boxes PopSecret Popcorn for $5.20.

Also, when I walk in the door, I normally scan the papers they post because I do not get them in the mail. I spotted a 3/$9 or B3G1 free for CoffeeMate creamer-- Because I didn't understand it, I asked the cashier to ring up my creamers seperate so I could see what deal it did. Turns out the paper was from last week, but they needed to honor it (their words) so instead of making it work 3/$9, they just gave me 3 for the price of 2, which was $7.58!!! Thank you Lord!

Then I went to Walgreens to try the P&G Register Rewards. (see this weekends ads for Walgreens) I ended up with 2 Magic Erasers, 2 bottles Cascade dishwasher gel (.25/1 cpn), 2 Crest Pro-health toothpastes (using $3/2 ES coupon) and three Charmin Easywipes (cpn $1.99 in -ad) and a box of To-Go ice tea pouches for a total of $20.40-- and I received back $20 in RR! Yeah!

Then I stopped at Fred Meyer because I forgot to grab salsa at Albie's....and remembered they had chicken breasts for $1.79/lb... so I grabbed two bags of that and also a Purex laundry soap because I had one more $1/1 cpn, and they were on sale for $2.50 :-)

Plus! I stopped to get apples from the Stemilt store (because they are the cheapest there!) and they were having a moving sale -- all apples were $.69/lb!

Thank you Lord, for your blessings. You stretched my dollars today farther than I had even hoped.

Just in Time!

Safeway is doing it again... and Just in time for Gabe's birthday!

"Spend $40 in participating products, and get 2 Free Movie Tickets!"

And I did peruse the participating brands list... it's huge. This should be easy to do without spending extra money on junk like they sometimes want you to.

And... what's coming out next weekend????

May 16th - Prince Caspian!

You know, I had to tell someone the other day (an adult) that she just had to read the Chronicles of Narnia. She never had. I read them as a child, but when I read them again a few years ago, it was a completely different experience. I was bawling through the end book-- and gained a whole new respect for the series. It is one that entertains and delights children, and yet challenges an adult to their faith in God's end game. I loved it. I can't wait for the girls to be old enough for me to read it to them!

You tell Me...

So, once you have your own house, your own laundry, your own piles of clothes to wash, rinse, repeat....

Is it nearly as much fun when you find nice, clean money in the washer?

At my house...You'd better believe it!

I was jumping for joy this morning when I found $6 in the washer!!!

Saturday, May 3, 2008

P.S. It's.....

Baby Powder. Lots and lots of baby powder.

The foot prints were from the cup and a half that she poured down her jammies.

Yea, kinda like pouring rocks on her head. She likes to put things down her shirt.

Hey, at least she's not stickin' her hands down her pants.

Yet.

Hooray!

Tomorrow I get to take my brand new NKJV Study Bible to church! I am so excited to start using it! I have been using my study NIV one, but I really wanted to get back to KJV, except that I have a hard time understanding it....

Long story short, I asked for one for Valentine's Day, Gabe got me one. He told me how much it was and I almost choked. No. I did choke. I took it back, and we've been looking for a better deal. I received a Crossings Book Club flyer in the mail, and with membership I got a Free leather bound Nelson NKJV Study Bible! How much of a blessing is that! Thank you Lord! (And I only have to buy three more books at their regular (discounted) price! :-)

Amen Amen Amen!

Friday, May 2, 2008

Thank you thank you thank you Lord!!!

Guess what miracles God provided tonight!???!!!

I just got home from playing my first/our third church league softball game tonight! And I did not get hit (hard), I played catcher the whole game- throwing without pain, I did pretty ok hitting, and I scored without pulling my quad!

I played without getting injured! To clarify-- definitely a miracle, considering how out-of-shape I am, and my usually terrible shoulders. (impingement - sp? for those of you wondering)

Thank you LORD!

Wanted: Liquid Coffee Creamer Recipe

So, Gabe and I are addicted to CoffeeMate liquid creamer. He loves Irish Cream, I love Coconut Cream. But the prices just keep going up and up. I used to only buy it if I could get it at $2.50/32oz. Now I am lucky if I can find it for $3. Regular prices around here? $4+
